Romona MCF3M

Hello, my name is Romona and i am creating this blog as part of an independent study unit for my MCF3M course. Just a little bit about myself, i am eighteen years old and have been in Canada for almost six years. My first high school was Winston Churchill and i spent three years there. Everything was great and i really enjoyed my years at wcci.
I got my first part time job job at the beginning of grade 11 and everything went fine until i had to move out and live on my own. It's obvious that i couldn't support myself with just a part time job, so i dropped that and got a full time job working night shifts. It was very very hard and i just couldn't attend all day school and work all night. I had no time for sleep, homework or myself. It just wasn't working and i knew i had to give up one in order to keep going. At the time, i had no choice but to sacrifice my school.
After a few months of going along like this, i realized that i had to go back to school sooner or later and why not make the sacrifice to go back now so that i can have more options in the future.
I heard about calc from a friend of mine that have previously attended and he loved it here, also the courses are shorter which works in my favour.
I used to love math back when i was in grade seven through ten but grade eleven was the beginning of my problems. I ended up skipping classes a lot until i finally ended up with a mark that showed it. I also found that there was a lot of new stuff in the curriculum and i never asked for help when i needed it.
My goals in this course are to come to class everyday, focus on the lessons and get my assignments done on time. I am ready and willing to work hard for this credit so that i can continue my path onto my future career.
I think that my strengths as an individual would be co operating with teachers and peers, taking notes and trying to get my work done on time. My weaknesses would be not doing too well on tests because i get very nervous and i forget everything i have revised.
All in all, i hope that this is going to be a great quad at calc and i would get all my goals accomplished for now while I'm here.

BLOG # 6 [These Tears of Hers]

"You said you couldn't stand to see my heart broken...so when you broke it, did you close your eyes?"...

Everyday we hear people say, "A picture is worth a thousand words" and yes that is true, so is, "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder". I have had this picture saved on my computer for a very long time because it touched me the first time i saw it. It is about a girl asking her significant other if he had closed his eyes when he broke her heart because he had told her before that he couldn't stand to see her heart broken. The image of the girl is almost like a black and white ghostly image, which i really like. You can see the anger and pain in her eyes, its just looking straight at you. The stare feels as if it is piercing through you while looking at it. This picture also defines the nature of some guys and the way they lie to their girls. They say that they can't stand to see their girls cry, they can't stand to see them hurting, or with a broken heart, but in the end it was all lies. We only realise t the end that they were lying, but such is life.

When i look at this picture, it reminds me of all the girls out there that have had their heats broken or is currently suffering from a broken heart. I can relate to these girls, i know how it feels and the only cure for a broken heart is TIME. Don't feel that it is the end of the world because it isn't, there are so many other opportunities out there waiting for you to grab. Bigger and better things are ahead and don't make one guy bring you down. It's his loss and he will regret it one day. It will be hard to forget but if you try, you can make it through.

I picked this picture because i have realised that a lot of girls with broken hearts don't come forward and stand up to their guys. They take all the pain and suffering and bottle it up inside. This picture is dedicated to all the girls out there with a broken heart or have had their heart broken. If you haven't had your heart broken, then you wouldn't know what it feels like. Life is too short to sit down and cry behind a guy that doesn't even care about you. Forget him, spend time with our family, go chill at the mall with your friends, relax and just go on with your life. This is just one of the toughest thing you'll ever go through in your life, but such is life and it goes on. Keep your head up ladies. One Love!

BLOG # 5 [My Tragic Love Story]

If i had the opportunity to be the main character in a famous Shakespearean play...a tragic play that is, i can imagine myself being the daughter of a very famous political leader and my tragic flaw would be love.
My life is set, i have everything that i can dream of. I am the only child, i am young, just twenty, doing great in college, single and waiting for the right guy to come along. I have a great relationship with my dad, my mom died at child's birth, so i never knew her. I have wonderful friends that are always there for me through thick and thin. There's nothing else that i can possibly ask for at this moment.
One day, me and a few of my friends were out chilling when we noticed a little baby trapped in he middle of a fire. I ran towards her and got her but the flames engulfed and now we're both trapped. With the huge amount of smoke around me, i collapsed with the baby in my arms. A few hours later i woke up at the hospital and i was fine but there was a very handsome man standing beside my bed. I was sacred for a second but my friends came in and explained that h saved me and the baby from the flames when i collapsed. I couldn't stop thanking him for saving my life.
That night as i was lying on my bed, i found my self thinking about him. The way he looked at me, it was as if i knew him from before. The following night, i was at a party with my friends and guess what ? I saw the same guy again. I decided to go talk to him and we got to know each other. Months went by and I've began to fall in love with this guy, and i knew he loved me too. we soon expressed our love for each other and were inseparable from then on. We met everyday, everything was fabulous and my life was complete.
My dad decided that he wanted to meet him. This was a very special day for me because my dad was going to meet the love of my life. They met and my dad thanked him for saving his only daughter's life. I was so happy and was wishing that my mom was with us, but i knew she was watching from above.
Time went by and he took me to his home town to meet his family. His parents died in a car crash when he was three years old. He lives with his elder brother and his brothers wife. This is where i got the shock of my life. His brother is the political leader that has a feud going on with my dad. My dad's party wants this man dead but he is on the run. I am Muslim but my lover is Hindu. I had assumed that he's Muslim because no Hindus were allowed to enter my hometown. So he couldn't be, but he changed his name so that he could enter freely and get a job to help his brother. Although my dad is his brothers enemy, they still accepted me as their own.
We decided to get married but i didn't want to tell my dad knowing that he was Hindu and i was Muslim. This was not allowed in my home town because we would be sent to jail. I have decided that i will elope, but my soon to be husband wanted to do the right thing and tell my dad. I explained the consequences to him but he insisted because he had already met my dad and my dad liked him.
A few days later, we went back to my home town and told my dad about out great news and then the part that we were afraid of. My dad became furious and wanted my fiance sent to jail for entering on a false identity and knowing that he is the brother of his enemy. I didn't want him to go, but the government headquarters sent us both to jail. We couldn't see each other at all and we hated every moment of it.
We found out that since i am the daughter of such a great man that actually made this law, then my punishment should be death and also for my fiance. The worst part is that my dad had to place the bullets in our hearts himself. They allowed us one day to spend with each other under supervision so that we couldn't escape, and to think of any last requests that we would like.
It's the day of my death, i couldn't sleep all night and so was my dad. He came to me crying and asking me to forgive him. I wasn't mad at my dad at all, i was happy that he was standing up for his country. I told him to take care of himself and don't be sad.
It's our time to go to the "Death Spot", two trees in an open field. I wore my mother's wedding dress that day. They placed us each in front the two trees and asked me what my last wish was. i told them that i want to get married to him before i die. They hated this but had to do it. I was happy, at least i got married to the love of my life before i was killed. His last request was to play his country's national anthem until he takes his last breath. They handed the gun to my dad and after a while he lifted his arm and shot my husband right in the middle of his chest. I screamed in horror as he received two more bullets. It's now my turn, i looked straight into my dad's eyes as he pulled the trigger. One...two...three bullets in my heart. We were both falling at this time, i held out my hands and he grabbed it and we fell to the ground facing each other and all this while the national anthem was being played.
My dad went back to his normal life but it kept on bothering him, knowing that he had to kill his only child and her husband on their wedding day too.
I was killed just because i was a Muslim girl in love with a Hindu guy. Two roses were planted at the borderline of our hometowns to signify peace and unity between the two religions.
So, here we go, if two people really love each other, nothing in the world can separate them, not even death. Sometimes we have to do things that we never imagined but such is life. Forget about your colour, forget about your religion, look deep down inside your heart and if you find love, there should be no problem. One people, One nation, One destiny!

BLOG # 4 [Fate & Destiny]

How can we influence what will happen in our lives?
Is there such a thing as fate or destiny?
To what extent do you believe in fate?

As we live our lives, we can never be sure what's going to happen next. I have to say that i do believe to an extent that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes we don't have control over certain events that takes place in our lives. Examples of such situations are death, natural disasters, destruction etc. We don't know when we're going to die, it may be 10 years from now, 50 years from now or even tomorrow. We can't tell when our time is here. same goes for natural disasters, when it comes out of no where wen can't help it. Some things just happen in a wink of an eye and before we can even realise, it has already changed our lives and made a huge impact.
On the other hand some things in our lives we do have control over and this is determined by the choices and decisions we make. We can either make the right choices and healthy decisions to have a great life or we can make all the wrong decisions and cause our selves problems. Sometimes, we as teenagers are greatly influenced by our peers. For example, if they skip class and they ask you to join them, it's your decision to say yes or no right? I know that it can be difficult to make more complex decisions, but it's all up to you. If something goes wrong, we can't blame anyone but ourselves because we made the choices on our own. I would have to say that i don't believe in fate and destiny because as i have mentioned above, we don't know what our future holds for us. We can never tell until it happens. Not forgetting that i do believe in karma. "What goes around comes around". If you do good for people, others will do good for you, but don't be ignorant and do something stupid. You can run but you can't hide because the tables are going to turn on you and you may have it twice as bad.
We can also influence what happens in our lives by doing something very important which is, "Think before you talk and before you act". Once you say something, you can't erase your words because it's already said. Also, listen to the people that cares about you, they will help you make the right decisions if you need them because they would want the best for you. I conclude that fate and destiny are just a power that people actually believe in because they think it predetermines the course of events in their lives. I believe that we are the ones that makes our choices and therefore held responsible for our future, except for special cases. Live, Laugh, Love! Keep doing what is right, stand up for what you believe in and live your life. :)

BLOG # 3 [Radio Spot Presentation]

After given all the information we needed, my partner Nicolie S. and i began brainstorming possible ideas that we could do our radio spot presentation on. We thought it would be pretty simple, but i guess we were wrong. Every idea we came up with was either already taken, too cheesy or just plain boring. After a while we decided to go with Geico. Anyways, this is how it went.

* It's a pretty good job when you think about it. Basically we help so many people save money don't we, like i tell them to switch to geico and save money on car insurance. I knew this guy, Nick Hogan, he bought a brand new car. This car was fast as lightening, like super man to pin ball. The car roared like a hungry lion in the morning. Roar! Buzz! Vroom! Anyways, he drove his expensive car...Screech! Boom! ...into a tree. I guess he wanted to find out how the Mercedes Bends. GEICO, 15 minutes could save you 15% or more on car insurance. *

Rhetorical Devices:
*Hyperboles (also could be a simile) - This car was as fast as lightening.
*Personification - The car roared like a hungry lion in the morning.
*Onomatopoeia - Roar! Buzz! Vroom! Screech! Boom!
*Pun - He drove his expensive car into a tree, i guess he wanted to find out how the Mercedes bends.

Persuasive Techniques:
*Bandwagon - We help so many people save money don't we?
*Star Power - Nick Hogan & Pinball
*Mascots - Superman

Slogan:
*geico, 15 minutes could save you 15% or more on car insurance.

BLOG # 2 [What is it about people's misfortunes that we enjoy so much?]

So, we all as viewers and consumers have to admit that we enjoy watching totally random shows. Whether it be hilarious, abnormal or interesting and we find a way to get to it, either by television or on the computer. We look at these shows because we are sucked in by the way they are presented and the content in the show. They are so appealing and stands out to us. For example, i was never interested in the show called, "Mind Freak". I have heard many people talking about it and how amazing the guy on the show is. One day i decided to take a look at it and ever since then, i try not to miss a show at all. It is so crazy, Chris Angel (Mind Freak) does unimaginable things such as making objects and PEOPLE disappear, he can figure out what you're thinking, he can lift himself off the ground etc. I have never seen anything like this before, it was so creepy and i was completely blown away. This proves that we watch shows because they are not the regular stuff that we see in our everyday lives. They are completely abnormal but very entertaining. For the shows that are bizarre and abnormal, we know we never did or never will do any of the stuff that we watch on these shows. For example, drinking blended worms on the show called, "Fear Factor". We look at people doing all these crazy things and we think to ourselves, "How in the world do they manage to do this?" It sets us back a little and makes us think how different we all are from each other because some things that people do, i would never even attempt. When it comes to the funny shows such as, "America's Funniest Home Videos" it gives us something to laugh about. When we were kids growing up, we watched cartoons everyday. When something stupid happens to the character, it makes us laugh because it didn't happen to us. We as viewers enjoy watching people do stupid and embarassing things and think to ourselves, " We're so lucky that's not us". Watching these shows relieves stress and helps us to relax. When i'm stressed out or worried, i put on the television and flip through to find something that would take my mind off of things bothering me. What ever the shows may be about, we all have different reasons as to why we watch them because we're all unique.

Hey everyone, my name is Romona B. and i am a 16 years old student currently attending high school. I am doing this blog as part of the media studies unit, which seems to be fun so far. so, first things first, let me tell you a bit about my self before we move on. In my spare time, i like to spend quality time with my family, my friends and my boyfriend. I also enjoy going to the mall with my friends, chatting on msn, reading romance novels, spending time alone to reflect and you can always find me listening to music. Music is a big part of my life, it gets me through my days. I'm a very open minded person, i don't judge anyone. I treat people the way i would like to be treated. I greatly dislike backstabbers, liars, haters and straight up people that tries their hardest to bring you down. I believe that we all have one life to live, so live it the way you want to. Make the best of each day, don't live with any regrets live your life as if everyday is going to be your last. If you fall, get up and keep going and always remember to keep smiling. Well, that's all for now. Stay tuned for more of me later :) Bye!
